About PTA...

When parents are involved, kids do better in school - better grades, higher test scores and fewer behavioral issues. National PTA, an association six million members strong, promotes working to help improve the education, health and well-being of all children.

You're the kind of parent that would do anything for your child. And so would we. We support better education, more resources, and safer schools in the life of every child. Because from homework to recess, from friendships to family, your child's development never stops. And neither do we.

Membership

Membership in National PTA is open to anyone who is concerned with the education, health, and welfare of children and youth. When you join a PTA, you join millions of others who care about issues affecting children. A not-for-profit organization of parents, educators, students, and other citizens active in their schools and communities, National PTA has local, council, district, and state-level PTA's operating in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and in the U.S. Department of Defense Schools overseas.

PTA objectives

  • To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship
  • To raise the standards of home life
  • To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth
  • To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth
  • To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education

PTA Mission

everychild. onevoice.

National PTA lends a collective voice to children where they need to be heard: at home and school; in urban, rural, and suburban communities; and in our nation's capital. National PTA is committed to the safety, well-being, and education of all children. Among our efforts, we strive to ensure

  • everychild has a parent/family member who is actively engaged in his or her life and education
  • everychild has a safe place to be before and after school
  • everychild has the opportunity to learn in a classroom that isn't overcrowded
  • everychild is provided an equitable and excellent public school education
  • everychild has equal access to computer literacy at school
  • everychild is rest-assured that his or her school is safe and drug-free

Becoming a PTA member means your adding your voice to those working to make a difference in children's lives.

Together we can continue to be a powerful voice for children

and a strong advocate for public education.
